The goal of the WFT Program is to prepare residents with the skills required to gain employment in industries that will drive the local economy over the next several decades. The WFT Program will engage with eligible entities in an endeavor to train residents with skills sets needed in industries that are expected to grow in the coming years.

This is an overview for a novice or re-entry worker to learn the language, and concepts of cyber security: Adversaries, targets, digital environment, internet overview, workings of a computer. Exercises will be performed using cloud-based services to understand: risk, probabilities, quantitative and qualitative risk metrics, the CIA model, NIST framework. This is a beginner course and can lead to a Security Plus credential with additional specific study.

Introduction to Networking.

This is an introduction to the TCP/IP environment of the internet along with the ISO 7-layer model.  Tools such as ping, tracert, nmap, ipconfig will be introduced and used to answer basic questions.  Simple network tasks such as assigning addresses, configuring subnets and masks will be performed.  With some additional specific study, a person can take the Network Plus credential test.

Introduction to Computer Forensics

This introduction provides an understanding of the mechanisms for storing data on disks, thumb drives or in a remote storage.  How is memory addressed, how do files, directories, file systems work?  What is meant to back up a system and how can digital information be used in legal and law enforcement situations.  Understand the difference between corporate and governmental rights/regulations.

Other models may include cryptography, malware, penetration testing, ethical hacking, use of scription tools, investigations using open source methods.  Specific development will be required to deliver to the specific needs of this program.  “Entry level setting to find out the capabilities of incoming students – assessment for math, computer knowledge, use of web tools, office tools, email, among others.  Initial focus may include entry level security and network and intermediate CEH, CHFI credentials.
